RANXETS: CUISINE IN TORREDEMBARRA

" If we had to choose a dish that represents the cuisine of Torredembarra, we would probably have to go with Bull"

This is taken fron the book of local recipes: 2 ranxets, la cuina a Torredembarra" ( Ranxets, cuisine in Torredembarra), a collection of dishes that have remained long-staning in the diet of the locals for generation after generation. The dishes are prepared using basic ingrdedients and produce from the sea and the land that everyone had available in their homes: gartic, tomatoes, dried fruits and nuts, oil, wine, aged wine, seasonal vegetables and fish.

A wide variety of dishes ranging from pickled food to marinated musches, *asmarris, alls cremats, fideuejats, romescos with squid or octopus, omelette in sauce, cod with tomato, xirles with garlic and onion, or garlic and pepper bull, etc...

The food given to a relatively large group of people and generally consisting of just one dish is known as "ranxo". Theses are the typical meals that fisherman cooked on board their boats to feed the entire crew, or the slew that peasants in the fields. So " Ranxets" has become the unique name given to these dishes of humble cuisine.

This type of cuisine, which remains very much alive to this day, is to be promoted through the "Ranxets, cuisine in Torredembarra" campaign, offering, expanding on and promoting cuisine from Torredembarra through participating restaurants. Each restaurant will have Ranxet dishes on its main menu, which will be updated over the year depending on the produce available at the market or during the season in order to offer a very varied representation.
