The Saler Lake and the nearby dunes
The El Saler pond is the largest one in Torredembarra. It did not have a name until historian Antoni Virgili found it in a thousand-year-old document from the 11th century, which originated from the precious salt that used to be extracted here each summer when the pond dried up and produced that characteristic white layer. Payments were made in salt for many centuries, hence the word "salary".
